PERSONAL CHILDHOOD WEB

The five people who nurtured and cared about me when I was a child:

  1. Leonard
  2. Deloris
  3. Josephine
  4. Beulah
  5. Thornton

Leonard is my father, he was the backbone of my family. He always made sure we had food on the table daily. My father also taught me to be strong even through my toughest struggles through life as a young girl growing up. Deloris is my mother, she has been the rock of my family and she made sure that me and my siblings ate breakfast before going to school everyday. My mother also provided me with love and support to keep going to school so that I can provide for my own family one day.

Josephine is my aunt; she always guided me throughout my life as a young girl growing up in a neighborhood surrounded by elderly uncles, aunts, and family friends. She taught me not to be afraid of bullies and to stand up for myself which made me a better person that I am today. Beulah is my grandmother, she inspired in me by saying that the greatest expectations in life is you; you determine what you make of your life. Still to this day my grandmother voice rest in my heart. Thornton is my grandfather, he was a very kind and gentle person. He taught me how to fish and how to drive during the summertime. My grandfather meant the world to me, he always said that I was his favorite. Today I can hear my grandfather voice telling me to stay strong and continue my journey living life to the fullest.

A stable and nurturing childhood is essential for the healthy psycho-emotional and spiritual development of a human being. While we may understand what is supposed to happen to us physically, we must begin to better understand what happens to children mentally, emotionally and spiritually as a result of the families into which they are born. - Iyanla Vanzant

“Whatever form they take, families are our most time-honored settings for giving and receiving love, understanding and nurturing. They can connect us with our past and be the ground for the future through our children. They are places where we stand the best chance of being understood for who we truly are, not what we possess or the power we wield. They can give us meaning in life and hope when the outside world fails us and when we fail.”
― Dr Brian Babington

“We should try to leave the world a better place than when we entered it. As individuals, we can make a difference, whether it is to probe the secrets of Nature, to clean up the environment and work for peace and social justice, or to nurture the inquisitive, vibrant spirit of the young by being a mentor and a guide.”
